THE BATTLE RETURNS

The annual Skate War Contests have become one of the largest and most anticipated Amateur Skateboard / Inline competitions in the nation.

This year the competition will be held July 17th thru July 18th. The entire event will be held at the Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort, Mount Pleasant Michigan. The resort is providing skaters with an amazing street course including spines, boxes, rails, pyramids, and all that other fun stuff. There’s even going to be a half pipe and a mini ramp. Skaters who qualify on the mini ramp will earn a spot skating at the Detroit stop of this year’s Vans Warped Tour at Comerica Park.

The competition will be broken into two days of shredding. All participants will be categorized by age & skill level. Each skater will receive a one minute run followed by a 10 minute jam session. Best trick will also be awarded. Finalists Saturday will compete in the finals Sunday.

But wait, there’s more. The contest area will also play host to all sorts of vendors and entertainment. Food, artists, clothing, show cars, you name it. All topped off with a killer concert Saturday after the semi finals. Performing acts include Shimmy Sham, 4-Eyed Carp, Klass Witta K, Anton Alize, Almost Free, and local favorites Jetpack On!  Did we mention this entire thing is free? No admission cost.

Contestants will be required to attend pre-registration Friday July 16th at the Resort 6:30pm.
Friday night everyone will receive bracket information and run times. $20.00 registration fee will be paid at this time (if you haven’t already) and all documents (waivers) signed. Worried about a long line? Local musician Joe Hertler will be performing to keep things interesting during the registration.

Thursday, July 15th we’ll be taking a little trip down the Chip River with our friends at U-Ride Taxi/Cracker Barrel. What’s happening is Skate War Inc. staff along with the pros from the event will be riding giant inflatable doughnuts downstream, enjoying what will probably be a million-degree day in July. All the more reason to spend the entire day near liquid. Fun in the sun all day until 4 p.m. So more like just a good portion of the day. Everyone is invited. You know, if you want to hang out or whatever. Cuz you know, we’re totally kinda cool. Totally kinda, sounds like an indie movie.. Be sure to call 989-773-3206 ahead and make reservations. Skate Crawl 2010

Once everyone has had time to wear off being chill all morning, Skate War and Sound Productions Entertainment will be taking 60 people around Mount Pleasant for an all night bar crawl. After things get started at Buffalo Wild Wings and the bone pile is high enough, a Crazy Train party bus, including a DJ, will begin making trips around town. Stops will be made at both O’Kelly’s and Cocoa Joe’s. Afterwards we’ll be heading back to end the night right where we started. Seriously now, how often does that happen? If you’re still wondering, you’ve got to be at least 21 yrs young to ride this ride kids.  And keep an ear out for 93.3 WKQZ, they’re totally going to be giving out free tickets for the bus during the weeks before this whole thing. Get on it.
